Matthew Joseph Fernandez

Matt is a doctoral candidate in the Department of English and Comparative Literature. Originally from Asheville, N.C., he received his B.A. in English at the University of Pennsylvania in 2014. He specializes in nineteenth- and twentieth-century American literature and culture, with an emphasis on pragmatism, modernism, and media studies. His dissertation traces the development of satirical modes of address during the Victorian Period and examines satire's relationship to the birth of antimodern politics in the United States.
